Agmatine Sulfate
Agmatine Sulfate is a naturally occurring compound derived from the amino acid L-arginine. It is considered a neurotransmitter and neuromodulator and can be found in certain fermented foods, including wine. Agmatine plays a role in influencing receptors associated with pain perception and has an affinity for various transmembrane receptors, including alpha-2 adrenergic, imidazoline I1, and NMDA.
Benefits of Agmatine Sulfate
Agmatine Sulfate has shown promise for alleviating neuropathic pain and drug addiction. It also has potential in protecting against strokes and benefiting cognitive health. Other benefits include reduced heart rate and blood pressure, increased insulin release from the pancreas, cardioprotection, and decreased kidney function. Agmatine Sulfate has also been found to improve endurance, increase muscle growth, and reduce fatigue during exercise, as well as improve mood, reduce anxiety and depression, and enhance cognitive function.
Case Studies
A pilot open-label consecutive case series study found that oral agmatine sulfate treatment is safe and effective in reducing neuropathic pain and improving health-related quality of life in patients with small fiber neuropathy. Another study showed that people with clinical depression who took 2-3 grams of agmatine sulfate daily experienced a rapid and long-lasting decrease in depression symptoms with no side effects.
The standard dose for agmatine sulfate is 2-3 grams per day. However, some sources suggest that effective doses can be as low as 500mg, with 1,000mg being the preferred dose for receiving the full effect.
Agmatine sulfate has been shown to have minor side effects in a very small percentage of users, including nausea, diarrhea, and vomiting. These symptoms typically resolve within several days after discontinuing supplementation. It is important to consult with a doctor before taking agmatine sulfate, especially if you have a medical condition or are taking medications.
