Acacia Gum

Acacia gum, also known as gum arabic, is a natural gum that is derived from the sap of the Acacia tree. It has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and everyday applications. Acacia gum has been used in pharmaceuticals as a demulcent and topically in wound-healing preparations. It has also been studied for its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and lipidemic effects.

Acacia gum contains water-soluble dietary fibers that are not only good fiber for your diet but also helpful in keeping your cholesterol under control. One study showed that taking 15 grams of acacia gum in liquid form every day helped manage the concentration of plasma cholesterols in blood.

Another study found that chewing an acacia-based gum for 7 days reduced mean gingival and plaque scores compared with use of a sugar-free gum. A total of 120 healthy females participated in a study to determine whether consumption of gum arabic (acacia gum) would cause a significant reduction in body mass index (BMI) and body fat percentage. A test group of 60 volunteers received 30 grams of acacia gum per day for six weeks. The results showed that acacia gum significantly reduced BMI and body fat percentage.

The recommended dosage varies depending on the intended use, but doses ranging from 15 to 30 grams per day have been studied. Acacia gum is generally considered safe when taken orally or applied topically. However, some people may experience mild side effects such as bloating, gas, or diarrhea.
