Palmidrol

Palmidrol, also known as Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), is a cannabinoid receptor-inactive endocannabinoid-like lipid mediator found naturally in foods such as egg yolks and peanuts, as well as in the human body. PEA can bind to cells in the body and reduce pain and inflammation. It is available for human use as a supplement (400 mg capsules) and as food for medical purposes in Italy and Spain (300 mg and 600 mg tablets).

Benefits of Palmidrol

PEA has been shown to have various health benefits, including reducing inflammation and pain, improving gut health, and providing anti-aging benefits. It has been used for different types of pain, fibromyalgia, osteoarthritis, and multiple sclerosis (MS). PEA may also modulate pain and inflammation via the activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs), which can enhance metabolism by burning fat, reduce serum triglycerides, increase serum HDL cholesterol, improve blood sugar control, and promote weight loss.

A case study on the treatment of neuropathic pain reported that a patient with post-herpetic neuralgia experienced relief after using PEA as a natural alternative to pharmacological pain relief. Another study found that a fixed combination of PEA and acetyl-L-carnitine was effective in the treatment of neuropathic pain.

In clinical trials, PEA was used for periods ranging from 14 days to 120 days, with doses ranging from 300 mg to 1200 mg daily. PEA has been reported to be generally well-tolerated, with no significant side effects or drug interactions observed in the studies. However, proper safety studies are still lacking, and it is essential to consult a healthcare professional before starting any supplementation to assess potential risks and side effects.
