DAA (D-Aspartic Acid)
DAA (D-Aspartic Acid) is a type of amino acid that is used in the body for various functions. It is not used to make protein, but it has been found to increase testosterone levels in untrained men by approximately 42% when taken at a dose of three grams per day. DAA is commonly used as a dietary supplement to enhance athletic performance and improve body composition.
Benefits of DAA (D-Aspartic Acid)
The benefits of DAA supplementation include increased testosterone levels, improved athletic performance, and enhanced body composition. A study conducted on 20 men with no health conditions found that DAA supplementation did not cause toxicity or serious side effects. However, two participants receiving DAA reported irritability, nervousness, rapid heart rate, and headache. The same adverse effects were also reported by one participant in the placebo group.
A study conducted on untrained men found that three grams per day of DAA supplementation increased total testosterone levels by approximately 42%. Another study conducted on 20 men with no health conditions found that DAA supplementation did not cause toxicity or serious side effects.
Recommended Dosage
The standard dose for DAA is between 2,000 – 3,000mg per day. Different studies have used different supplementation protocols. One study used 3,000mg for 12 days, taken daily, followed by a week with no supplementation.
Potential Side Effects
The potential side effects of DAA supplementation in males include increased dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels which may cause hair loss and acne. However, the current evidence does not support such claims in humans. In addition, rodent studies show that daily supplementation with D-aspartic acid does not cause toxicity. Furthermore, human studies have not reported evidence of toxicity or serious side effects.
