Coleus Forskolii 20%

Coleus Forskohlii, also known as Plectranthus barbatus, is a perennial herb native to the tropical regions of Asia, particularly India, Nepal, and Thailand. It belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and has been used for centuries in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for its various health benefits.

One of the key active compounds found in Coleus forskohlii is forskolin, which is extracted from the root of the plant. Coleus forskohlii extract, standardized to contain 20% forskolin, is a popular dietary supplement known for its potential therapeutic properties. Forskolin is believed to activate the enzyme adenylate cyclase, which in turn increases levels of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) within cells. This molecular signaling pathway has been associated with a range of physiological processes, including the regulation of metabolism, cardiovascular function, and cellular communication.

Case studies:
  • A preliminary study showed that given 25 mg of Coleus Forskolii supplementation, lean body mass significantly increased compared to baseline. No side effects were reported.
  • A study investigated the effect of Coleus Forskolii extract on the risk factors of metabolic syndrome. The results suggest that it may reduce weight gain, insulin resistance, and blood cholesterol in overweight and obese people.

The recommended dosage is 100-300 mg/day orally of extract containing 10-20% forskolin. At the doses typically used in clinical trials (100-250 mg, 2x/day), forskolin is generally safe with mild adverse effects such as headache, low blood pressure, and rapid heart rate. However, there are no long-term effects associated with the use of Coleus Forskolii 20%.
