Propolis Powder

Propolis powder is a substance made by bees from tree sap, bee saliva, and beeswax. It is commonly used as a dietary supplement due to its potential health benefits. Propolis powder has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It can help fight infections, boost the immune system, improve type 2 diabetes, relieve inflammation, and reduce acne breakouts.

Some clinical studies have also shown that propolis supplementation can help improve glycemic status, lipid profiles, inflammation and oxidative stress, liver enzymes, and body weight. Additionally, propolis may have benefits for oral health, including reducing plaque, gingival markers, and mild periodontal problems.

The recommended dosage of propolis powder varies between 50-1,500 mg/day. However, the bioactivities of propolis vary significantly based on geographical origin, making it difficult to define a correct dosage. As for potential side effects, propolis administration can cause hypersensitivity, particularly in regard to topical application, resulting in allergic reactions, swelling, dermatitis, and urticaria. In specific cases, an individual had severe swelling of the throat and anaphylactic shock upon topical application.

Clinical investigation in mice and humans report that propolis and its constituents are generally well-tolerated and non-toxic unless administered in very large quantities.
