Papain 2000
Papain 2000 is a natural enzyme derived from papaya fruit. It is used for a variety of conditions such as pain, inflammation, fluid retention following trauma and surgery, digestive issues, parasites, and more. Papain is also used in manufacturing as a meat tenderizer, cosmetics, toothpaste, enzymatic soft contact lens cleaners, and beer stabilizers.
Research suggests that papain supplements may help digestion, relieve pain, and reduce inflammation. However, more study is needed to prove its efficacy. A case study reaffirms the efficacy of papain in eliminating over-granulated tissue in a chronic diabetic wound ulcer. Papain itself has been used for improving digestion, but there is no reliable evidence that it works for this use in people.
Research also suggests that papain may be used as a natural remedy for skin ulcers, wounds, and other skin conditions. However, it is not known if the beneficial effects are due to papain itself, the other ingredients, or the specific combination of ingredients.
The recommended dosage of papain is up to 1200mg per day for up to 9 weeks. Papain is LIKELY SAFE when taken by mouth in amounts commonly found in foods. It is POSSIBLY SAFE when taken by mouth in medicinal amounts and when applied to the skin in appropriate amounts. However, taking very large amounts of papain is possibly unsafe and can cause severe throat and stomach damage.
