Myrrh is a resinous extract that comes from the Commiphora myrrha tree which is native to North Africa and the Middle East. In traditional medicine, Myrrh has been used to treat a variety of ailments, but most commonly for its potential antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties.

The appropriate dosage of myrrh extract depends on several factors such as the user’s age, health, and several other conditions. Large doses of myrrh extract may be unsafe. Amounts greater than 2-4 grams can cause kidney irritation and heart rate changes. Other potential side effects of myrrh are heart irregularities and lowered blood pressure, although these are mostly seen at high doses of more than 20 grams per day. When applied to the skin, myrrh extract may cause skin irritation or allergic reactions in some people.
