L-Isoleucine

L-Isoleucine is an essential amino acid that is one of the three branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) alongside leucine and valine. It plays a role in muscle protein synthesis and can significantly increase glucose uptake into skeletal muscle.

Here are some benefits of L-Isoleucine:
  • Helps regulate energy and blood sugar levels
  • May help enhance athletic performance
  • Can help reduce muscle soreness, decrease recovery time, and prevent muscle protein breakdown

The recommended dosage range for isoleucine per se is 48-72mg/kg (for a 150lb person, 3.3-4.9g). It is best to start by taking 1 to 2 grams up to three times daily. There are no known potential side effects of L-Isoleucine when taken in recommended doses. However, using a single amino acid supplement may lead to negative nitrogen balance, which can lessen how well your metabolism works and make your kidneys work harder. In children, taking single amino acid supplements may also cause growth problems.
