Hoodia(Chinese Extract)

Hoodia gordonii is a cactus-like plant native to the Kalahari Desert in Africa. It’s been traditionally used by the San people, local to the area, to suppress appetite and thirst during long hunting trips. In recent years, Hoodia has gained attention in Western countries as a potential supplement for weight loss.

Benefits

The primary purported benefit of Hoodia is its appetite-suppressing capabilities, which are linked to a molecule known as P57. This molecule is believed to send signals to the hypothalamus in the brain, tricking it into thinking the body is full, thus potentially aiding in weight loss.

Although most of the benefits of Hoodia are associated with weight loss, some people also use it as an adjunct for other conditions, such as high blood pressure and diabetes, due to its supposed ability to regulate blood sugar levels. However, more research is needed to confirm these benefits.

There is no official recommended dosage for Hoodia supplements due to the lack of robust clinical trials. However, manufacturers typically recommend doses ranging from 400-800 milligrams per day, divided into two or three doses.

Side Effects

Side effects from taking Hoodia are not well-studied but can potentially include nausea, dizziness, and stomach discomfort. In rare cases, it may cause more severe side effects such as liver problems. Due to limited data on its safety and efficacy, it’s not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women, children, or people with eating disorders.
