Fucoxanthin

Fucoxanthin is a carotenoid found in brown seaweed, which is a type of algae. It is a functional ingredient that has been shown to have potential medicinal and nutritional benefits. Fucoxanthin is considered safe and can be easily extracted from macroalgae and microalgae.

Benefits of Fucoxanthin

Fucoxanthin has been claimed to help combat a variety of health issues including obesity, diabetes, inflammation, and oxidative stress. Laboratory studies suggest that fucoxanthin reduces inflammation and oxidative stress and may inhibit dietary fat absorption by inhibiting fat-digesting enzymes. One study conducted in humans suggested the effects of fucoxanthin on weight loss. The combination of 300 mg pomegranate seed oil and 300 mg fucoxanthin per day for 16 weeks resulted in significant weight loss, reduced body and liver fat, and improved liver function.

Case Studies

A daily dosage of 2.4-8mg fucoxanthin has shown benefit in some human studies over a prolonged period of time. A study conducted in rats showed no significant adverse effects after a 4-week daily treatment with fucoxanthin (95% purity). Furthermore, fucoxanthinol, the metabolite of fucoxanthin, showed no significant adverse effects in vivo.

The recommended dose for fat loss is 2.4mg-8mg per day. It may take more than a month to see results with Fucoxanthin. Fucoxanthin is generally considered safe with no significant side effects reported in clinical trials.
