Fennel Seed Powder

Fennel seed powder is a supplement made from the dried ripe seeds of the fennel plant. It is used for various digestive problems, including heartburn, intestinal gas, bloating, loss of appetite, and colic in infants. It is also used for upper respiratory tract infections, coughs, bronchitis, cholera, backache, bedwetting, and visual problems.

Fennel seed powder is high in nutrients like calcium, manganese, vitamin C, potassium and magnesium–a great combination for overall health. Because it contains a high amount of fiber, it can help you feel satiated and aid in weight loss. Fennel seed powder contains antioxidants that reduce oxidative stress in the body by fighting free radicals that damage your cells and lead to signs of aging and disease. Fennel extracts have been shown to ease many chronic conditions such as atherosclerosis and inflammation.

A study showed that fennel seed extract has a positive effect on the STAT signaling and intestinal barrier function. Another study showed that fennel seed oil could avoid liver damage and act as a hepatoprotective (liver protective) in an animal study.

The recommended dosage of fennel seed powder varies depending on the form it is taken in. For example, fennel tea can be made by adding 1-2 grams of crushed seed in boiling water. Tincture can be taken orally at 5.75 grams per day. Capsules can be taken at 1-2 capsules (480-960 mg) three times daily, preferably with food. Fennel is generally safe when taken by mouth in the amounts commonly found in food. However, some people can have allergic skin reactions to fennel. People who are allergic to plants such as celery, carrot, and mugwort are more likely to also be allergic to fennel. Fennel can also make skin extra sensitive to sunlight.
