E. Cottonii
E. Cottonii, or Kappaphycus alvarezii, is a species of red algae commonly known as “cottonii” in the seaweed farming industry. It is commonly found in the waters of Southeast Asia and the Western Pacific and is known for its substantial nutritional value and health benefits.
E. Cottonii is a unique health supplement sourced from seaweeds. It has a high content of dietary fibers, proteins, minerals, and vitamins, particularly Vitamin C and B-vitamins. It also contains carrageenan, a natural compound used as a thickening agent in the food industry, and a good amount of iodine, beneficial for thyroid health.
Benefits:
- Dietary Fiber: The high fiber content aids digestion, promotes satiety, and helps manage body weight.
- Antioxidants: It is rich in antioxidants, which can help protect the body from free radical damage.
- Gut Health: As a prebiotic, it feeds the good bacteria in your gut, promoting a healthy gut microbiome.
- Bone Health: E. Cottonii contains a good amount of calcium, which is crucial for bone health.
- Supports Thyroid Function: The iodine content can support healthy thyroid function.
Case studies:
- Seaweed (Eucheuma cottonii) reduced inflammation, mucin synthesis, eosinophil infiltration and MMP-9 expressions in asthma-induced rats compared to Loratadine.
- Eucheuma cottonii extracts could be a potent natural product and can provide a promising hepatoprotective effect against lead acetate-induced hepatotoxicity in mice.
