Cymbidium Extract (Orchid Extract)
Cymbidium extract, also known as orchid extract, is derived from the Cymbidium species of orchids. It has been used for centuries in traditional Eastern medicine and more recently it has been gaining popularity in the West, primarily in the health supplement industry.
The main benefits attributed to Cymbidium extract include:
- Antioxidant Properties: Like many plants, orchids are rich in natural antioxidants. These substances can help the body counteract the damaging effects of free radicals, potentially slowing down the aging process and reducing the risk of chronic diseases like heart disease and cancer.
- Anti-Inflammatory Properties: Some studies suggest that orchid extract may have anti-inflammatory properties, which could help alleviate symptoms in conditions characterized by chronic inflammation, such as arthritis.
- Skin Health: Due to its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, orchid extract is also often used in skincare products. It is believed to hydrate, condition, and protect the skin, promoting a healthy complexion.
- Potential Neuroprotective Effects: Some preliminary studies suggest that certain compounds in orchids might have neuroprotective effects, potentially supporting brain health and cognitive function. However, more research is needed in this area.
According to a study published in the Journal of Advanced Veterinary and Animal Research, low doses of Cymbidium Extract can trigger a better cellular immune response than higher doses. Another study published in Phytochemical Analysis and Dermo-Cosmetic Evaluation of Cymbidium sp. (Orchidaceae) Cultivation By-Products showed that ethyl acetate extracts obtained from flowers, pseudobulbs, and roots exhibited a dose-dependent inhibitory effect. The recommended dosage is 100 to 150 mg per serving taken 15 to 30 minutes before activity. There are no known potential side effects of Cymbidium Extract.
