Alpha GPC 50%
Alpha GPC 50% is a dietary supplement that contains alpha-glycerophosphocholine (alpha-GPC or α-GPC), a cholinergic compound that increases the levels of acetylcholine in the brain, which is important for memory and learning functions. Alpha GPC is used for Alzheimer’s disease, stroke, memory and thinking skills, and other conditions, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
However, some studies suggest that alpha GPC may improve cognitive symptoms such as memory and attention impairment. A 2021 cohort study of more than 12 million participants (at least 50 years old), including 108,877 with dementia, found that alpha-GPC was associated with a lower risk of dementia.
The recommended dosage of alpha GPC for cognitive decline is 1,200 mg daily, divided into three doses of 400 mg. Alpha GPC supplements are generally recognized as safe and well-tolerated for healthy adults when taken at recommended dosages.
The most common side effects are headaches, followed by nausea and heartburn. Some users describe it as “too stimulating”, especially in higher doses. It is advised to start with the lowest possible effective dose of alpha GPC supplements and build gradually if needed.
