Alfalfa Grass (ORGANIC)
Alfalfa grass is a plant that has been used for centuries as a medicinal herb and livestock feed. It is filled with protein, fiber, essential vitamins, and minerals. Alfalfa grass is often considered a superfood because of its numerous health benefits.
Here are some of the benefits of alfalfa grass:
- Regulating blood sugar levels: Alfalfa appears to improve cardiometabolic health by decreasing blood fat and blood sugar levels.
- Supporting metabolic health: One traditional use of alfalfa is as an antidiabetic, or blood sugar-lowering, agent. Several animal studies have found that alfalfa appears to improve cardiometabolic health by decreasing blood fat and blood sugar levels.
- Regulating cholesterol: Taking alfalfa seeds seems to lower total cholesterol and “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol in people with high cholesterol levels.
- Diuretic properties: Alfalfa can increase urine flow and help get rid of kidney stones.
- Source of calcium, potassium, phosphorous, iron, and vitamins A, C, E, and K.
There are no significant recorded side effects of consuming alfalfa supplements. However, taking alfalfa seeds long-term is likely unsafe. People with auto-immune diseases or hormone-sensitive conditions should avoid using alfalfa until more is known. The recommended dosage for alfalfa supplements is not established because there are no studies that have established a maximum safe dosage.
There are few case studies regarding the benefits of alfalfa grass. One study found that alfalfa has been studied little as a potential treatment of hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol), and therefore, further research is needed. Another study found that although there is no evidence from studies done on humans, animal testing suggests that the chemical composition of alfalfa can help with weight management and lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
