Tri-Sodium Citrate Dehydrate

Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate is a sodium salt of citric acid that is commonly used as a buffering and chelating agent. It is used in various industries such as food, medicine, and personal care products. In medicine, it is used as a urinary alkalinizer to make the urine less acidic which helps the kidneys get rid of uric acid, preventing gout and certain types of kidney stones. It can also prevent and treat certain metabolic problems caused by kidney disease. Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate can also be used as a laxative.

According to a case study published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases, the use of sodium citrate and citric acid solution in patients with kidney stones resulted in a 50% decrease in stone formation. The study concludes that this medication is a safe and effective treatment option to prevent recurrent calcium oxalate stones in high-risk patients.

The recommended dosage for Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate is 540 mg, taken once daily. There are potential side effects of Trisodium Citrate Dihydrate such as diarrhea and stomach upset. In rare cases, it may cause high sodium levels which can lead to confusion, muscle weakness, and other symptoms.
