Paeonol

Paeonol is a natural compound found in the roots of Paeonia suffruticosa and Paeonia lactiflora. It has been found to have several therapeutic effects against cardiovascular diseases, inflammation, neurodegenerative diseases, and cancer.

Here are some benefits of Paeonol:
  • It has anti-inflammatory effects.
  • It can protect the cardiovascular system and help in the treatment of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
  • It has neuroprotective effects.
  • It has anti-tumor effects.

There are several case studies regarding the benefits of Paeonol, including one that showed the efficacy of paeonol in treating ulcerative colitis in rats. Another study demonstrated that Paeonol suppresses solar ultraviolet-induced skin inflammation by targeting T-LAK cell-originated protein kinase.

The recommended dosage of Paeonol is 6-12 g/day for adults. According to studies, it is nontoxic and has no known LD50 for Paeonia veitchii, and 3.43 g/kg for Paeonia suffruticosa. However, the efficacy evaluation showed that the dose of the paeonol group (100 mg/kg) in treating ulcerative colitis in rats was accompanied by toxic side effects on the kidney and liver. Therefore, more research is needed to establish safe dosages.
