N-Methyl-DL-Aspartic Acid

N-Methyl-DL-Aspartic Acid (NMDA) is an amino acid derivative that acts as a potent agonist at the NMDA receptor. It is commonly used as a dietary supplement to enhance athletic performance, increase absorption of minerals, and alleviate fatigue.

Some studies have suggested that NMDA may increase testosterone levels in healthy men aged 27-37. However, other studies have shown that a daily dose of six grams of D-aspartic acid (DAA), which is similar to NMDA, decreased levels of total testosterone and free testosterone in resistance-trained men. Another study reported irritability, nervousness, rapid heart rate, and headache in two participants receiving DAA. Therefore, the benefits of NMDA are still under investigation and more research is needed to confirm its safety and efficacy.

The recommended dosage of NMDA is not clear due to the lack of scientific evidence. However, some studies have used doses ranging from 2.6 grams to 6 grams per day. It is important to note that excessive intake of amino acids may cause adverse effects such as fatigue, dizziness, nausea, insomnia, and depression of growth. Therefore, it is recommended to consult with a healthcare professional before taking any dietary supplements.
