Nitrosigine
Nitrosigine is a patented complex of arginine and silicon that is used as a pre-workout supplement to increase blood flow and improve exercise performance. It was originally developed as a dietary intervention for atherosclerosis and bone mineral density disorders.
Here are some benefits of Nitrosigine:
- Increased blood flow: Nitrosigine supplementation increases exercise blood flow and decreases biomarkers of muscle fatigue following exercise.
- Improved cognitive function: A recent investigation showed that Nitrosigine may improve cognitive flexibility as compared to a control group.
- Enhanced NO production: Research has proven that Nitrosigine enhances NO (nitric oxide) production, increases arginine levels for up to 6 hours after ingestion, and out-performs L-arginine in terms of increased exercise blood flow and decreased biomarkers of muscle fatigue following exercise.
A study published in PMC supports previous research findings that Nitrosigine may be a beneficial pre-workout supplement, and that a 1.5 g dose of Nitrosigine may be equally as effective at increasing endothelial response as a larger 8 g dose of citrulline malate (CM). Another study found that Nitrosigine may improve cognitive flexibility as compared to a control group.
The recommended dosage of Nitrosigine is typically between 500 mg to 1.5 g per day. Research has shown that doses of >9g in healthy adults lead to adverse side effects like nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
